Meet the Faculty
The Department of Mathematics offers two tutoring resources – The Mathematics Tutoring Hub and the Math Lab – to help Blugolds better understand their course material. These labs also provide student employment opportunities with roles available as math tutors.
There’s also a Math Springboard summer program available for first-year students looking for additional mathematics material review and support.
The Mathematics Department hosts a Math Meet and a Sonia Kovalevsky Day (SK Day) each year. The Math Meet is a high school math competition, and SK Day is designed to expose middle school and high school women and non-binary students to opportunities available in math and science. Our faculty stay involved in the local community to help teach the next generation of mathematicians.
Mathematics professors enjoy collaboration and devote lots of time to making mathematical discoveries with Blugolds. Students can then present their work in a professional environment at the annual Spring Math Retreat at the university-wide Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity (CERCA), and even receive funding to travel to state and national mathematics conferences.
Blugold Stories
The professors in the math department push you to succeed in whatever you are interested in. They encourage you to work one-on-one in independent studies and research projects. These are opportunities that are not available at larger universities.
I can’t say enough about the professors at UWEC, especially those that teach the actuarial science courses. It really was invaluable to have teachers who had real life experience in the industry and could bring more to the courses than just the math. They were also the most kind, helpful, and fun group of teachers I’ve ever had!

A collaboration between Hewlett Packard Enterprise and UW-Eau Claire is giving Blugolds the opportunity to use high-performance computing to engage in their data-driven research. Supercomputers can process massive data sets in a short period, allowing students and faculty to dedicate more time on other aspects of their research.
